About

Hello. My name is Heidi. As a small child, I was inspired by images of Sir Chris Bonnington and of stories about Polar exploration. As time went by, my dreams of becoming an explorer were replaced with those of an office career. Life took over and a career in the city ensued. Then I went to Everest base camp and life changed. The dreams re-emerged.

I’m an ordinary woman and I’m at a point in my life where there’s probably a lot less time ahead of me than I’ve already lived.  I’ve reached a period in my life when I am questioning who I am and what life means for me. Nature has recently thrown down her gauntlet. She has made it very clear that its about time I started to make the most of my time on this amazing planet.

In 2014, I took part in a 5 person English Channel relay swim. It was possibly the most incredible experience of my life so far. So much so that I am still processing what actually happened. I will never forget it. For three reasons:

  1. It was, without doubt the toughest thing I have ever done
  2. I was absolutely terrified
  3. Nature is amazing

I honestly thought I’d trained hard enough that it would be a breeze. IDIOT!!  despite my fears, together with my amazing friends we did get to France in 13 hours.

You could call it a mid life crisis or you could call it a realisation of what really matters to me, or even suddenly figuring out that I’m getting older and life feels like its slipping through my hands like grains of sand, but I want to prove that someone who has spent most of their life avoiding things like tents can learn new skills and can explore in their own small way and become the hero of their own life. Reaching that ‘special’ time in a woman’s life shouldn’t mean that she is limited or feels that she should be skulking in the shadows whilst gravity and yoyo-ing  hormones take hold.

I’d like to share my experiences, lessons learned and thoughts as I explore this new world I want to inhabit and I’d love to bring other like minded folks along on my journey and hopefully inspire others to release their inner hero.

Together, lets find our extremes, whatever we choose them to be; let’s be the heroes of our own lives..

Please do share your comments with me if you like any of my posts,  or even if you don’t, I’d like to hear what you think too.

Heidi
